My heart skipped a beat when I saw these on the site of B. Vikki Vintage. Absolutely beautiful illustrations by the self taught artist Brianna McCarthy, who works in Trinidad and Tobago. Her passion is to change the the portrayal of Afro-Caribbean women as only, "strong, long-suffering...picturesque beings, against a backdrop of poverty, hardship, abuse/or scorn." Brianna is working to showcase a "new range of emotional experiences and expressions of Afro-Caribbean women through her art. The woman are beautiful, alluring, confident, and engaging to the now. I think she has succeeded and is well on her way.
